Auto Gain listens while the source performs and sets the preamp level. Clip Safe monitors the input and automatically adjusts gain when clipping is at risk. These features can reduce setup errors when a guest suddenly becomes louder, but neither confirms that the correct microphone is selected, that room noise is acceptable, or that the recorder is writing the intended tracks.

Use them as guardrails. After setup, make a short recording, play the file back, and confirm channel separation, headroom, and noise before the real conversation begins.
