AI Transcription and Rough-Cut Workflow
Use transcription to navigate and draft a cut while preserving speaker intent, correcting names and numbers, checking context, listening across edits, and retaining source timecodes.
A transcript makes a long recording searchable, but it flattens timing, tone, overlap, hesitation and visual context. A safe rough cut uses text to find candidates and source media to approve every meaning-changing edit.
Correcting a transcript and deleting words from a composition are different actions; know which mode is active.
Create the evidence package
Back up source media, record file IDs/durations and generate a transcript with speaker labels and time references. Save the untouched machine transcript; it documents model output, not truth.
Correct without rewriting
Descript says Correct fixes misspellings, punctuation or missed words without changing underlying audio/video, while re-analyzing alignment. Verify Correct versus editorial deletion before acting. Prioritize names, dates, amounts, negatives, medical/legal claims, URLs and quotations.
Build a paper cut
Tag thesis, evidence, examples, transitions, repetition and unresolved claims. Assemble a proposed sequence with source timecodes. Do not smooth grammar by changing what a guest meant or removing a qualification.
The three-listen gate
For every cut, listen to the last sentence before, the edit boundary and the first sentence after. Then watch the complete paragraph/scene for gesture and visual continuity.

Export provenance
